Teenage Mothers in the UK.

According to surveys, around 56,000 babies are born to teenage mothers in the UK every year. Britain has the highest rate of teenage pregnancy in western Europe – and the second-highest in the world after the US.

According to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics, there were 42,918 conceptions among under-18s, 8,196 conceptions among under 16 and 380 among under-14s in 2007.

Handan Erek photographed teenage mothers during and after their pregnancies, capturing moments of their daily joys and struggles and finding out about their aspirations and future plans.
